Nowadays, many companies also work on the network concept, but we are talking about computers, so let’s know what computer network is and how it works.

what is computer network

When 2 or more computers are connected to each other for sharing of data, information, then this type of connection is called computer network.

In computers network, computers and devices connected to computers communicate with each other for sharing of data, information.

Simplex mode

In simplex transmission (this is Unidirectional = data can be sent only in one direction), signals are transmitted in only one direction.

The devices that generate signals are called transmitters and those who receive these signals are the receivers.

In this type of transmission, data is sent in one direction.
Therefore, no receiver is able to send any message to the sender.

Half duplex mode

half-duplex transmission (bidirectional-but not at the same time)

In this type of transmission, both the device works as both the transmitter and the receiver, but one device performs the same operation at a time – either sending, sending or receiving data, information.

There is a walkie-talkie in which one message is sent at a time but the message can be sent in both directions.

Full duplex mode

full duplex transmission (bidirectional at the same time)

In this type of transmission, both the devices are transmitter and receiver and both devices can send data in both directions at the same time.

On the basis of how large the area of ​​computer network is, let’s understand computer network

These networks are mainly of 3 types like

LAN – Local Area Network

MAN – Metropolitan Area Network

WAN – Wide Area Network,

Many people associated with computer science believe that PAN- (PERSONAL AREA NETWORK) (Personal Area Network) – is a separate category but it is mainly part of LAN – Local Area Network.

Even then let us understand this also.

PAN- (Personal Area Network) –

When different types of electronic devices are wired or wirelessly connected to each other in the range of 10 meters and share images and songs etc. to each other.

Like a mobile phone to another mobile phone, a printer to a mobile phone, a computer to a mobile phone or laptop etc.

LAN (Local Area Network) –

When a computer and a computer peripheral are connected with each other in a radius of 1 km from a location, then that type of network is called Local Area Network (LAN).

These types of networks are mainly built in a school, bank, railway station etc. This LAN may or may not be connected to any other LAN.

Most of these types of networks are private and work under the same person or organization who created these networks. The data transfer speed in a LAN is 100 mbps – 1000 mbps (or 1 gbps).

There are many types of LAN network design and switch / hub / Ethernet cable etc are used to create these networks.

These networks are also made wireless

These are called WLAN. Computers and other devices connected in WLAN can be mobile. This type of network is used for wireless communication within home, school, computer lab, offices.

A network larger than a LAN is a MAN.

Example of WLAN: –

Networks built in hospital, school, colleges, bank etc.

MAN (Metropolitan Area Network): –

This network is larger than the LAN and these networks are made by connecting many LANs that are built and operate at different locations in a city.

All the LANs in the Metropolitan Area Network have different types of combination of computers and other devices.

And this combination is called network topology.

Example of MAN : –

WAN (Wide Area Network): –

Where the LAN extends up to 1 km (in a particular area) and MAN up to 10 km (consisting of different areas in a city), the WAN or wide area network extends to the entire state or country level.

And connects computers and other devices spread over an area of ​​100–1000 km or more. Telecommunication (telecom) companies are examples of network WANs.

Fiber optics, microwave or satellite transmission are used in data transmission in WAN.
