The temple is built using pink sandstone and white marble from Rajasthan, while steel, iron, and concrete were not used in its construction.

It is spread over an area of about 83,342 square feet and stands 141 feet tall, 316 feet wide, and 356 feet long. The temple houses more than 20,000 statues of saints, great personalities, and acharyas. It has 234 intricately carved pillars, 9 ornate domes, and 148 life-sized elephants weighing a total of 3,000 tons. Under the central dome of the temple, there is an 11-foot-tall idol of Swaminarayan, along with statues of Sita Ram, Radha Krishna, Shiva Parvati, and Lakshmi Narayan, all made of panchdhatu (a combination of five metals).
